Tomorrow's Big Adventures!!!
1. Summer Practice Schedule Begins tomorrow! Suns @ 8:30am, Devils @ 9am, 9/10 @ 9:30am and 11andolder @ 10:15am!!!! Dive open anytime between 9:15-11:15am
2. Our first Swim Meet will be at Wynterhall Pool (Wyntercreek side) tomorrow night!
- Arrive between 4:30-4:45pm so your swimmer can have his/her arm marked with a Sharpie with the events he/she is swimming. There will be parents and coaches available on deck to assist your child.
- Redfield team warm up will begin promptly at 5pm
- The swim meet will begin at 5:30pm
- Have your swimmer in a black, red or red/black swim suit. Girls in a one-piece and boys in jammers. Also, no swim shirts during competition. We will hand our cool Redfield swim caps at the meet! Kids only get one -- so "try" not to loose it.
- Bring cash for full concessions and possibly a sports chair (it's gonna be a full house). You can bring a small cooler... but be aware that concessions are how swim clubs make money for their coaches and how they get new equipment, etc. So please don't picnic at Wyntercreek pool.
- Meet programs will be ready by tomorrow. Wynterhall is in the process of merging our entries right now. I will email as soon as we receive.
- PARENT VOLUNTEERS: Please see Shelley Schlifkin and/or Carey Phelps when you arrive for details on your jobs. Please don't make them hunt you down. SHIFT 2 WILL BEGIN AFTER EVENT 40. So if you are working Shift 2, keep this in mind.
- Spirit wear orders: With the holiday weekend, Swim Atlanta got backed up. Along with you, I will be wearing last season's tank top:) Sorry everyone. He hopes to have the remaining shirt orders ready this week.
- Events and Relays: THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ!!!! With this being the first meet of the season, Kylie is being conservative rather than pushing the younger swimmers with the entries. Please keep the following in mind when you see the meet program and maybe ask: Why are they only swimming one event? Or why are they not in a relay?
- The 6andunder kiddos only have two individual events (free and back) and very few swimmers are able to swim backstroke yet. So most littles will only be in ONE INDIVIDUAL EVENT.
- We got the "green light" from Wynterhall to have jr coaches in the water if your child still requires assistance to get across the pool safely. Kylie will determine this before the meet and the coach will be ready to jump in before they swim. This is not typical but safety is our top priority. Coaches will not assist swimmers in Heat 1 (i.e. scoring heats) so its okay!
- Being that said.... if your swimmer requires assistance from a coach, they cannot be in a relay because "all relays will be Heat 1 and scoring." Our goal is to get your kiddo across the pool as soooooon as possible so they can be in a relay with their buddies next meet!
- There are FOUR KIDS IN EACH RELAY. If there are six kids in the age group swimming at the meet -- that means two kids will not be in relays. It stinks. Sorry. But we are at the mercy of math, and the four fastest kiddos will do relays. Sure we make it fun, but it's still a sport and we want to win. Instead of getting upset -- use this as an opportunity to inspire your swimmer to work harder to take off time his/her individual events at this swim meet. Personally, I've had my son sit for relays because someone beat him out. I told him to simply swim faster on his individuals and get his spot back! I lit the fire... and he did!!! He got back on the relay for the last meet.
- If your kiddo is not swimming in something they would like to this meet -- encourage them to speak with Coach Kylie at practice. This is a great way for kids to start advocating for themselves. *Also, I suggest you have your swimmer set ONE GOAL this season. Something very attainable that he/she can accomplish by the final meet. My kiddos did this when they were younger to give the season added purpose.
*** I say this every year, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart... This is summer swim. It's not Dynamo or the Olympic Trials. It's friends swimming with friends -- getting stronger, learning, growing, getting sweet tans and sno cone mustaches:) Your kids will look to YOU to see how to behave. Let's make sure they see us smiling, laughing and cheering. Additionally, we have a coaching staff of ten on deck ready to encourage your kiddo compete -- let them. Nothing spurs on a full retreat like mom-to-the-rescue;) You'll be surprised what your swimmers can do when the big kids and Coach Kylie cheer them on.
Weire so excited for tomorrow!!!! Go Sun Devils!!!
