    Ga Tech *Day Of Info*

Parents of Ga Tech swimmers, get ready. This email is going to be a long, but is important!!!

Remaining Practices: regular schedule tomorrow, Monday; Modified schedule for Ga Tech swimmers ONLY Tuesday morning (9:30-10:30am) and afternoon (5-6).

Volunteers: We have three volunteers already signed up, but we’d love to know if anyone else would be willing to help out so we can split some shifts for them. Let me know! Volunteer positions are for girls bullpen (VERY organized at GT) or drink worker. Both get you on the deck while working.

    Day of Timeline

    • No later than 2:05pm Arrival: Meet on the FRONT lawn of Georgia Tech McCauley Student Rec Center to mark arms and take a team picture. We MUST walk in TOGETHER at 2:20pm, so please don’t be late! Parents can grab seats in the stands and we’ll handle getting the kiddos to our section *If you are getting a wristband, this is when you will get it!
      • Definitely add in a lot of buffer time to get to GT. Every year there seems to be extra traffic (I always plan for at least an hour to get there) and with the World Cup this year, I am sure there will be even more! Consider carpooling, MARTA or uber. If you haven’t pre-paid to park, add even more padding time.
    • 2:55 Wam Up
    • 4:00pm Meet Starts
      • All 6U races will be held at the BEGINNING of the meet! This helps get you and your kiddo home quicker and is a great intro to Ga Tech! You’ll see that our normal meet schedule shifts a bit because of this, but we’ll help ensure all the kiddos know where to be and when!

    Day of Details

    • Parking: World Cup Mania is here and traffic/parking will be crazy. We highly recommend carpooling, or consider taking MARTA or an UBER to keep your sanity:) Reserve Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Parking | Upcoming Games & Events | ParkMobile-- but it always fills up so get it now!
      • If you do not prepay to park or if the W10 lot sells out you can park in the W02 lot at 355 Ferst Drive (Student Center lot), a short walk from the pool. One thing of note, access to this lot is a little tricky due to construction on Ferst Drive. You will have to access this lot from Tech Parkway, there are detour signs around the facility that should be able to point you in the right direction. You cannot prepay for parking in those lots, you just pay when you arrive, or take a ticket from the kiosk and pay upon exiting the deck. Directions and maps are also available on Championship - Atlanta Swim Association
    • Entry: Our team must enter the building together at 2:25. Georgia Tech now requires all spectators to go through security screening (metal detectors and bag screenings) to enter the Campus Recreation Center. Athletes will not have to go through this screening. No large coolers are permitted. The less you bring with you the quicker you will get through.
    • Swimmer section: We will be in the stands this year, in section 202, which is a swimmer only section. Please have your swimmer sit with the team. This is CRITICAL to ensuring that they make their events! You think finding kids on the Redfield playground is hard- just wait until you see GT! I promise we will take great care of your kiddos! Our JAVs will get them to the bullpen, Coach Kylie and the assistant coaches will be on deck and we all have the same goal of making sure your kiddo has the BEST TIME EVER!
    • Parent seating: For those attending GT for the first time, only swimmers, coaches and volunteers are allowed on deck. Parents sit in the upper stands and it is great if we can all sit together! Fortunately we are an earlier warm up group, so try to grab seats in the middle, between the two pools. This gives parents the best view of both the boys and girls pool.
      • Note: we will have a few extra wristbands to get adults on deck. They will first go to 6U parents first. Contact me if you want to get on our “next up” list.
    • Heat sheets will NOT be available on-site. If you want a printed heat sheet, print it at home!!!!! Athlete entry list and heat sheet is available on the Championship Website. Championship - Atlanta Swim Association (swimtopia.com)
      • Note: your swimmer’s events and heats will NOT be available on the SwimTopia app.
    • All 6U races will ALL be held at the beginning of the meet, so your child will remain in the pool area. Be sure to bring extra towels, sweatshirt, snuggie or something to keep them warm while they wait for their events. The pool is COLD and the littles turn into popsicles! Please note: we may keep this group on the pool deck between warm ups and their first event so be sure they have their towels when they go down!
    • Packing recommendations (in a bag):
      • Two towels and a sweatshirt (as a forewarning, the main pool is COLD)
      • Two goggles and cap (we have extra if needed!)
      • Water bottle/drink sweatshirt
      • Snacks. There is a healthy cafe next to the gym, but at least the last few years, it closes early and is primarily healthy options (great for us, bummer for the kids). I always pack my kids multiple snacks and some pasta or easy “dinner”. We’ll also have a few goodies for them:)
      • Electronic devices are discouraged due to the obvious wetness.
      • There is a cool down pool (which is actually a warm pool) kids can jump in after their swim to warm up; but please remind your kid that it is NOT a playground! It is meant for a couple laps and then they should sit in our section and cheer on/support their fellow Sun Devils!!
    • Need to carpool? Contact us if you need assistance. We have tons of cars with space ready to help you out!

Want more info? Visit Championship - Atlanta Swim Association (swimtopia.com): get directions, purchase professional photography for your swimmer if you want, see entry lists and psych sheets. What are psych sheets???? They show the “seeding” for each event in our session (which is Session 2, Wed @ 4pm.) I strongly recommend that you NOT share seeding with our child prior to the meet. We have many swimmers seeded to place VERY high and it can be VERY stressful if they think they have that pressure on them to win. Also they are NOT the heat sheet.

Questions? Concerns? Just want to talk? We’re here for you!!!
